The Olive Tree is among the oldest known cultivated trees in the world. In Greek mythology, Athena, Zeus’s daughter, goddess of wisdom, planted the first olive tree (the Parthenon was built in Athena’s honor, right next to that olive tree), after she won the contest to Poseidon. During baptism in the Christian church, holy oil is used for anointment.
